The Senior BA/QA Analyst is responsible for bridging the gap between business needs and technology solutions while ensuring the quality and accuracy of mortgage products and processes. This dual-role position involves working closely with business stakeholders to gather requirements, document processes, and ensure that technology solutions meet business needs. The analyst will also conduct quality assurance testing to verify that mortgage systems, workflows, and products perform as expected, ensuring they meet both business and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand and document business requirements, process flows, and user needs.
  • Conduct thorough requirements gathering and analysis sessions to define functional specifications for mortgage-related systems and processes.
  • Create business and functional requirements documents (BRD, FRD), use cases, and process diagrams to communicate needs and expectations.
  • Analyze business processes to identify improvements, inefficiencies, and opportunities for automation within mortgage operations.
  • Act as a liaison between business teams (e.g., loan officers, underwriters) and technical teams (e.g., developers, IT support) to ensure alignment on project goals and objectives.
  • Develop and execute detailed test plans, test cases, and test scripts to verify that mortgage systems and applications meet the defined business requirements.
  • Perform functional, regression, and integration testing, and lead user acceptance testing (UAT) on mortgage applications and workflows.
  • Identify, document, and track defects using a defect management system, and collaborate with developers to resolve issues.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that system enhancements, updates, or releases do not negatively affect existing systems or workflows.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of test data and environment setups for mortgage-related applications.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, business policies, and security requirements during testing.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation related to business requirements, test plans, test cases, and test results.
  • Provide regular updates to project teams and stakeholders regarding test progress, issues, and resolutions.
  • Prepare test reports, defect summaries, and testing metrics for management review.
  • Document and track all changes to processes, systems, and workflows, ensuring all updates are clearly communicated to relevant stakeholders.
  • Participate in daily standups, sprint planning, and review meetings with agile development teams to ensure clear communication of project milestones and goals.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, subject matter experts, and developers to resolve business requirements and QA issues.
  • Provide feedback on user interface (UI) design and workflows to ensure systems are intuitive and user-friendly for end-users.
  • Train end-users on new systems, features, or changes as part of system rollouts and product releases.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in both the business and QA areas, recommending strategies for system enhancements or process automation.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, mortgage regulations, and best practices in business analysis and quality assurance.
  • Actively contribute to improving test coverage, test efficiency, and the overall quality assurance process.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of mortgage products, processes, and systems (e.g., loan origination systems, servicing systems, and compliance tools).
  • Experience in writing detailed business requirements and translating them into functional specifications.
  • Experience as a BA or SME in one or more mortgage LOS systems (e.g., Encompass, Blue Sage, Empower, etc.)
  • Proficiency in QA methodologies, testing techniques, and defect tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, Quality Center, TestRail).
  • High-level knowledge of mortgage industry regulations and compliance standards (e.g., RESPA, TILA, QM).
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams in an agile environment.
  • Experience with analyzing and organizing data using tools such as SQL queries and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in business analysis and quality assurance, preferably within the mortgage or financial services industry.

  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing business needs, technology updates, and shifting project priorities, ensuring quality is maintained throughout.
  • Collaboration: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, necessary to work with a variety of stakeholders, including business units, developers, and QA teams.
  • Time Management: Ability to effectively prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects concurrently, and meet deadlines.
  • Regulatory Understanding: Mental ability to understand and apply mortgage regulations to ensure compliance during both the analysis and testing phases.
  • Proactive Approach: Takes initiative and has ability to work autonomously with minimal direction.
