The Director of Brand and Communications is responsible for overseeing the organization’s brand identity, internal and external communications strategy, organic social media, PR/media relations, and creative team leadership. This role defines and maintains the organization's brand voice, tone, and visual identity across all channels and touchpoints Additionally, this role will lead PR and media relations including developing and executing strategic media outreach plans, building and maintaining relationships with journalists and media outlets and crafting press releases and media materials.

Responsibilities

Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Direct supervision of Marketing and Creative team members.
• Oversight of designers, copywriters, content creators, and other in-house and potential vendor branding and communication personnel.


Duties/Responsibilities:
Brand Management
• Own and evolve the organization’s brand identity, including visual, verbal, and experiential elements.
• Develop, maintain and enforce brand and style guidelines across internal and external assets.
• Ensure consistent brand execution across all departments and communication channels.

 

Communications Leadership
• Develop and implement internal and external communications strategies that promote organizational transparency, engagement and alignment.
• Oversee content development and governance for internal platforms, such as the company intranet (SharePoint).


Public Relations and Media Relations
• Manage media relations strategy, including development of press materials and proactive outreach.
• Build and maintain relationships with key media outlets and journalists to enhance brand reputation and visibility.
• Monitor industry trends and manage communication planning and response for reputational issues or crises.


Organic Social Media Management
• Develop and oversee the execution of organic social media strategies across all relevant platforms.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment between social content and broader brand messaging producing compelling content that reflects brand and voice.
• Monitor performance metrics and adapt social strategies based on analytics.


Owned and Earned Media Strategy
• Create integrated strategies for owned and earned media to enhance brand awareness and engagement.
• Identify and leverage opportunities for storytelling, user-generated content, and thought leadership.
• Align all content with brand voice and overarching marketing goals.


Creative Team Leadership
• Lead and manage in-house creative team resources and workflow.
• Ensure high standards of design and content creation aligned with brand standards that resonate with target audiences.
• Manage project timelines, priorities, and resource allocation to meet strategic and operational needs.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Strategic thinker with the ability to manage complex, multi-channel initiatives.
• Proficiency in digital marketing and communications tools and platforms.
• Ability to manage senior-level stakeholder expectations and present to executive leadership.
• Experience in fast-paced, matrixed environments.


Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• 8–12 years of relevant experience in brand management, communications, or public relations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• Demonstrated success in developing and executing brand and communication strategies.
• Experience managing creative and communications teams and working cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders.
• Proficient in tools such as SharePoint, social media platforms, and analytics/reporting software.

 

Physical & Mental Abilities Requirements:
Physical Requirements
• Primarily office-based work, with extended periods of sitting and computer use.
• Occasional travel required for industry events or external meetings.
• Must be able to work extended hours during peak campaign periods.


Mental Requirements
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to perform in high-pressure environments and meet tight deadlines.
• Focused on process improvement, campaign optimization, and strategic execution.
• High attention to detail and analytical skill in evaluating communications and marketing effectiveness.


Work Environment
• Hybrid schedule required with regular on-site presence in NJ and/or PA headquarters.
• Occasional off-site meetings, media events, or industry functions.
